What I Want for my Birthday

My birthday is later this year, so I thought I would tell you my wish. For my birthday, I would like to see everyone on the planet treat each other the way they would like to be treated . . . with kindness, understanding, and respect.

This may seem like a lot to ask. But it's not just a gift for me. It is for my children and grandchildren, too. And for yours. My grandsons are young now, not even in first grade yet. But I would like them to grow up breathing clean air in a world where they see everyone modeling how we can do so many things by working together. I'm grateful they do have people in their lives who do that.

I'm not the only one to want this. The Bible says: "No one should seek their own good, but the good of others." 1 Corinthians 10:24 (NIV).

I believe there are many, many people who are trying to seek the good of others. If not, we humans would have destroyed ourselves long ago. I don't want that for my precious boys. Or for their children.

We borrow the land for a time. We borrow these children. What would the world be like if we all decided to live for the good of others?  What would change?

That is my wish and my prayer. Pray with me. God listens.

A new year brings new healing moments to those who have lost a loved one. This is a good time to start a gratitude journal. Writing down the smallest blessings helps ease the ache of loss.
