Today I found myself in a place I had not really planned to be. I just wanted to run by to sign up for a different activity, but here I was singing Christmas carols and playing a hand bell. I decided to go with it, and I enjoyed it very much.
It didn't matter that it was unplanned or that the piano had an out of tune key, or that my voice was not that great. People were smiling and having a wonderful time. They welcomed me, and I smiled back. We all just enjoyed singing songs we have been singing forever. And I liked that. It meant a lot to me as I went about the rest of my day.
Have you ever surprised yourself like this? Maybe you were hurrying to get things done but found yourself in a beautiful spot or greeted by friends. Maybe you accidentally fell into a craft-making activity. It seems to me that happy accidents like that are some of the best things we can surprise ourselves with.
Surprise yourself today, and see where that leads you!
